The SU-27 is the current show-piece fighter jet of the Russian airforce. It was created in the engineering office of Pavel Osipowitsch Suchoi in 1971. The advanced two seated training version SU-27UB is today the craft the stunt pilot squadron already established in 1946 operates. Its home air base is Kubinka, 60 kilometers west of Moscow. Six SU-27UBs entered the squadron in 1989 and enabled the aerobatics team to demonstrate spectacular maneuvers.
