As this SR-71 occasionally sported the “Playboy-Bunny” on its stabilizers, it came to some fame, receiving the nickname “Rapid Rabbit”.

NASA also operated two of the high-speed, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft in the 1990s for various flight experiments, among them one of only two built B-series training variants. Today, the original is on display at the Kalamazzo Aviation History Museum in Michigan, USA.

The cartoon mascot of the Skunk Works decorates the tail units of this SR-71. The term "Skunk Works" denotes a Lockheed department which - in close cooperation with the US Air Force - researches new weapons systems and technologies, mostly in total secrecy. On its final flight in 1990, SR-71 flew from Los Angeles to Washington DC in a record time of one hour and just under eight minutes.

Since 1985, the 941st Regiment, based near Murmansk, is equipped with the SU-27. On the stabilizer, their aircraft sport the unit’s insignia: a walrus surrounded by the titles "Pearl of the Russian Polar Region".
