Baku, the capital of the former Soviet Republic Azerbaijan, is home to Silk Way Airlines, founded in 2001. It operates six IL-76TD transporters which are barred from operation in the EU by environmental regulations, except in emergencies. The original of this model, limited to 2,500 pieces, is 4K-AZ41, still young as a 1999 vintage.
